St. Spyridon Church

Saint Spyridon Church is a Greek Orthodox church located in Corfu Town

Historic sites are everywhere in Corfu and Saint Spyridon Church is one of the most significant sites, a landmark itself, being considered of historical and architectural importance. Located in the town center of Corfu, boasting an extremely tall bell tower, this church is being visited by the majority of travelers every year. Having been built in 1580, it is the place where the relics of Saint Spyridon were brought from Constantinople and are still being kept, so that worshipers are able to visit them. St. Spyridon’s miracles and the fact that he saved the island from the plague that hit Corfu about 1629 is the reason why lots of processions are being organized and repeated annually in order to honor the patron Saint.
